The UNA Human Performance and Research group needs approximately 50 volunteers to help with the "Bad Kitty-Trail City 10K" on Saturday, April 19th. They need people willing to be on the road and trail directing the runners, as well as at the registration table helping the runners get signed in. The 2014 W. C. Handy Festival is looking for volunteers to assist with this year's festival. It will require approximately two weeks of service beginning Friday, July 18th through Monday, July 28th. The festival offers the volunteers many unique and diverse opportunities that fall into the category of a "once-in-a-lifetime experience." Florence/Lauderdale Tourism is seeking "Visitor Experience Volunteers" for its new Visitor Center which will open this month. Duties will include working the Visitor Information Desk, welcoming and assisting visitors, giving directions, and providing information on accommodations, dining, attractions and events. Volunteers will also conduct facility tours and organize materials for the information desk. Shifts will be four to six hours per day. Volunteers will need to be flexible, including working weekends. Volunteers are needed to assist in answering calls for 2-1-1 Information and Referral of Northwest Alabama. 2-1-1 is a statewide network of regional call centers whose mission is to provide easy access to health and human services available throughout Alabama. By making services easier to find, the 2-1-1 network strives to empower individuals with the information they need to “Get Help or Give Help” in their local communities. They serve individuals from all walks of life, but more importantly, the vulnerable populations such as the indigent or elderly, who often slip through the cracks. The Florence Lauderdale Animal Shelter is in constant need of volunteers to assist in various areas such as walking dogs visiting dogs in the kennels or outside pens, photographing the animals, visiting the cat rooms and helping to keep the kennels clean and sanitized.
