About the Residence Hall Contract
Your Residence Hall Contract is a legal, binding contract. If you are, or will be, a registered student and have completed a Residence Hall Contract, you will not be released and will not be able to cancel your Contract to move off campus.
YOU SHOULD NOT SIGN ANOTHER LEASE unless you have received formal written release from your Residence Hall Contract.
The last day to submit a Request for Contract Release for the Fall Semester is: July 8, 2014.
The last day to submit a Request for Contract Release for the Spring Semester is: November 17, 2014.
Request for a Contract Release
Only students, current and incoming, with written documentation of significant and unforeseen change in circumstances since entering into the terms and conditions of the contract that prohibits the applicant from fulfilling his/her contractual obligations that cannot be addressed through a transfer to another accommodation within the residence hall system may file a request for release from the Contract.
Request for a Contract/Lease Release forms are available from the Department of University Residences and should be submitted with appropriate and required documentation to the Department of University Residences in a sealed envelope for review by the Contract Review Committee.
Download the Request for a Contract Release Application.
A Request for a Contract/Lease Release form must be accompanied by the required supporting documentation to be considered by the Contract Review Committee. Incomplete or missing documentation will result in the request for Contract/Lease release being denied or delayed until the appropriate documentation is supplied. A Request for a Contract/Lease Release will not be granted retroactively due to a delay in providing the appropriate documentation.
The Contract Review Committee meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month while the University is in session.
Financial Hardship: You must complete the Request for a Contract Release Form and the Student Financial Statement, as well as provide additional written documentation to support the claim of significant and unforeseen change in circumstances since entering into the terms and conditions of the contract that prohibits the applicant from fulfilling his/her contractual obligations. DO NOT SIGN ANOTHER LEASE UNTIL RELEASE IS SECURED! Other documentation may also be requested.
Medical Hardship: Release from the Residence Hall Contract will be approved only if the medical condition cannot be supported in campus housing. Details are listed in the Request For A Contract Release Application.
Extremely unique and/or sensitive medical issues can be reviewed by pertinent official staff only if required.
If you are a Sorority Member living on a Sorority Floor in either Appleby East or West, you must also provide a written release from your Sorority Advisor stating that they release you from having to live on the floor. This does not guarantee that you will be released from your contract, just that you do not have an obligation to the Sorority.
Any requests received after these dates will be considered for the following semester.
